Children and Videogames: Playful Devices or Poisonous Vices?
Wednesday February 10th , 6:30-8pm
Sequoyah School 535 S. Pasadena Ave Pasadena, CA 91105
The sheer delight and entrancement with which children approach videogaming results in parents capitulating to children’s demands for more devices and game time, often reluctantly. Fears of letting children roam outdoors, and the drain of feeling perpetually responsible for orchestrating children’s social lives often leaves parents no choice but to allow children free reign in front of the screen. And yet, questions abound as to whether videogames have harmless or harmful effects. Dr. Gnaulati will discuss the effect of videogames on children’s aggression, psychosexual development, physical health, attention span, visual-spatial learning, creativity, and multimodal literacy.
Dr. Enrico Gnaulati received his doctorate in clinical psychology from Columbia University and is in private practice in Pasadena, California specializing in child/adolescent therapy and assessment, and parenting consultation. He is the former president of the San Gabriel Valley Psychological Association and has held a variety of university teaching positions. He has published articles on adolescent development, sibling therapy, conflict resolution with preschoolers, and group therapy with ADHD children and his book, Staying with Playing: Emotion Regulating Therapy with ADHD Children was released by Rowman & Littlefield in 2008.

Kid Talk
Teacher Gilda was busy helping two children who were tugging at the rope, each saying "I got it first" and holding on steadfastly. Gilda came to their aid, holding on to the rope and asked child #1, "what is your story" and after his story was heard, he turned to the friend who he was in conflict with and said to him "what is your story?". Soon after, they figured out a way to take turns without Gilda's help.
